If you're planning a trip to Bali, don't skip Nusa Penida snorkeling — it's one of the most unforgettable underwater experiences in Southeast Asia. In this blog post, I’ll share my personal snorkeling experience at Crystal Bay, Gamat Bay, and The Wall, plus what it was like to try free diving for the first time!
Whether you're an experienced diver or a curious beginner, this guide will give you a glimpse into the crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life of Nusa Penida. I’ve also included my YouTube vlog so you can see the full journey!
🐠 Why Snorkel in Nusa Penida?
Located just off the coast of Bali, Nusa Penida is known for its stunning coral reefs, tropical marine life, and epic visibility. It’s one of Bali’s best snorkeling destinations and perfect for both snorkelers and divers.
📍 Snorkeling Locations We Visited in Nusa Penida
1. Crystal Bay Snorkeling
Our first stop was Crystal Bay, a picturesque cove surrounded by cliffs and calm waters. The moment we dived in, we were surrounded by vibrant corals and tropical fish. It’s one of the most accessible and beginner-friendly snorkel spots in Nusa Penida.
📝 Best for: Calm waters, coral reefs, great visibility.
2. Gamat Bay Snorkeling + My First Free Dive
At Gamat Bay, I pushed myself outside my comfort zone and tried free diving for the first time! The waters were beautifully clear and we were surrounded by villas up on the cliffs. I was nervous at first, but diving below the surface and holding my breath while surrounded by marine life was truly empowering.
💡 Tip: If you’re trying free diving for the first time, stay relaxed, equalize slowly, and go with an experienced guide.
3. The Wall Snorkeling (Open Ocean Spot)
Our third stop felt like it was in the middle of nowhere — just open ocean and a deep reef wall stretching vertically. It was a completely different vibe: quiet, mysterious, and peaceful. The marine life here was incredible, and it felt like we were floating on the edge of the earth.
🌊 Best for: Deeper water, wall diving/snorkeling, more experienced swimmers.

🌴 Final Thoughts: Is Nusa Penida Snorkeling Worth It?
