La Roche-Posay UVIDEA AQUA Fresh Gel

Tuesday, March 25, 2014
Do you know that you need to protect your skin against the harmful sun rays that will cause skin ageing even you are indoors by applying sunscreen protection product? Long UVA rays account for more than 75% of UVA rays, they reach the heart of the dermis(2nd layer of skin) all-year long even in cloudy weather, in the city or through windows and it trigger global damage to the skin quality. Applying sunscreen product can help to reflect UV ray when they are expose to your skin thus it help to protect against sunburn, pigmentation, complexion greying and ageing.

Choosing the right SPF:

There are so many product with different SPF(Sun Protection Factor), result varies on different people.
How to choose the right one: Duration you will get sunburn * no. of SPF = Protection timing
Example: You normally will get sunburn in 1 hour of exposing to sun therefore using a product with SPF30 can protect you for 30 hour. (It also depend on how strong the sun is)

Measurement of UVA Protection:

  • PPD - The persistent pigment darkening (PPD) method is a method of measuring UVA protection, similar to the SPF method of measuring UVB light protection, this method is originally developed in Japan and it is the preferred method used by manufacturers such as L'Oréal. P.S La Roche-Posay is under L'Oréal. Instead of measuring erythema or reddening of the skin, the PPD method uses UVA radiation to cause a persistent darkening or tanning of the skin. Theoretically, a sunscreen with a PPD rating of 10 should allow a person 10 times as much UVA exposure as would be without protection.
  • PA++++ - Asian brands, tend to use The Protection Grade of UVA (PA) system to measure the UVA protection a sunscreen provides. The Protection Grade of UVA (PA) system is based on the PPD reaction and is now widely adopted on the labels of sunscreens. According to the Japan Cosmetic Industry Association PA+ corresponds to a UVA protection factor between two and four, PA++ between four and eight, and PA+++ more than eight.
